April 21, 2009, Ottawa, Ont. – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is cutting spending by 15 per cent says the union that represents the agency’s workers.
According to the Agriculture Union, the spending cut is to help pay for a fund that would cover the cost of future food emergencies. The union fears the cutbacks will increase the likelihood of another Canadian food crisis as deadly as the recent listeria outbreak.

The CFIA is denying the union’s claims.
