October
12, 2010, Ayton, Ont – A union wants an inquest into the deaths of two farm
workers who died near Hanover last month.
The
United Food and Commercial Workers Union says it is optimistic a coroner’s inquest
will be called into the deaths of Ralston White, 36, and Paul Roach, 44.
The
Jamaican farm workers were overcome by fumes and died on Sept. 10 in Ayton,
Ont.
They
were trying to fix a pump for an apple cider vat at Filsinger’s Organic Foods
and Orchards in Grey County.
The
union says it is lobbying the Ministry of Labour for more education on the
dangers of unguarded equipment and working in confined spaces.
