April 20, 2009, Abbotsford, BC – About 25 area fruit and vegetable farmers protested outside a local B.C. agriculture building last week after their crop insurance claims were denied.
The group had enrolled in the provincial and federal governments’ production insurance programs and paid their premiums but were still denied claims for 2008, even though some had lost as much as $250,000 in crop losses due to weather.
