On Saturday, Oct. 5, Pfennings Organic Farm launched its first Market Day, a one-day event aimed at connecting local consumers with the farm and its offerings.
Attendees were taken on a farm tour across the 800 acre organic farm. Mother and son owners, Jenn and Marcus Pfenning, explained their farming methods from pest control, crop rotation, composting, harvest equipment, packaging, storage and more.
“We were thrilled with the turnout for our first Pfenning’s Market Day. Proceeds raised went to our Community Food Access Program, which supports organizations that work to make food accessibility easier for vulnerable populations,” said Bernadette Antoniou, marketing and sales specialist with Pfennings Organic Farm.
At the event visitors also enjoyed live music, kids’ activities, 18 vendor tables offering with samples of all sorts of goodies like artesian hot sauces, goat cheese, baked goods and more. The vendors had many options that would be great value-added items at any farmers market: Microgreens, soap made from local pumpkin puree, maple syrup, bee products, Kombucha or goat cheese.

“A great mix of people from near and far came out for the day and it was heartening to know that so many care about the origins of their food, the land it grows on and the people who make it happen. We’ve got ideas and high hopes for the next event,” Antoniou added.
