Prairie, Man. – Recent weather in Manitoba is pushing the risk of
potato late blight high in the province.
According to Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives’ August 18th late blight forecast, the risk of the disease continues to be high in all areas of the province. While no rainfall has been experienced, night dews combined with moderate temperatures are keeping the threat alive.
Potato crop specialist Tracy Shinners-Carnelley recommends that all potato fields in Manitoba be kept on a seven day spray schedule with regular field scouting.
