A life-time of giving back to the farming community was acknowledged earlier this year as Simcoe farmer Ken Porteous was named to the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame.
Porteous, 82, has distinguished himself in the areas of dairy farming, apple farming and tender fruit production.
The Guelph-based Hall of Fame has recognized Porteous for a host of achievements. These include being a top breeder of dairy cattle and the establishment of the Norfolk Cherry Company. From 1990 to 2010, Porteous served as vice chair of the Ontario Tender Fruit Growers Marketing Board.
During his tenure, Porteous helped develop the Self-Directed Risk Management Program. The program continues to backstop farmers during tough years and is one of Porteous’s proudest achievements. | For the full story, CLICK HERE.
