Once again in 2005, the Manitoba Weekly Vegetable Report will continue to be placed on the Web. Be sure to bookmark the following URL: http://web2.gov.mb.ca/ agriculture/mwvr/index.php. The report, published every Friday (beginning in mid to late May) throughout the growing season (usually until late October), provides information on insect and disease problems affecting vegetables grown commercially in Manitoba, based on reports from MAFRI vegetable crop scouting activities. Insects and diseases on onions, carrots, cole crops (cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage), sweet corn, and table potatoes are all scouted weekly. The information collected is brought back to the two specialists overseeing the program, entomologist Brent Elliott and plant pathologist Philip Northover, and interpreted. Samples may also be sent to the Crop Diagnostic Centre in Winnipeg, for further examination. For further information on the Weekly Vegetable Report or the Vegetable Scouting program, or to inquire about a vegetable insect or disease problem, please contact Brent Elliott (entomologist at 204-745-5669 or Philip Northover (plant pathologist at 204-745-5694).
