Vitaminis, a vegetable snack produced by the FresQ/Rainbow Growers Group from the Netherlands, is the winner of the 2007 Innovation Award at the Fruit Logistica fresh produce trade show in Berlin, Germany. The snacks are packaged in rectangular plastic bags suitable for vending machines and come in three varieties – sugar-sweet mini tomatoes, crispy-tart gherkins (pickling cucumbers) and mild and tender orange-coloured peppers. Vitaminis are promoted as being ideal as a healthy snack food and will be marketed to compete with conventional snack products sold at gas stations, kiosks, supermarkets or fitness studios. The products are currently being launched on the German market. “We worked hard on developing this product and are quite proud to receive the award,” said Iwan van Vliet of the Rainbow Growers Group. “We are also convinced that this product offers the market a genuine innovation. Vitaminis offer school-aged children a healthy alternative to sweet candy bars.”
