mapmax_photoWitt-Gasetechnik GmbH & Co has expanded its Leak-Master series with the latest addition, the MapMax, developed from the Leak-Master Inline model. This leak detection system for packaging can be easily integrated into the production line: in addition to the outer packaging and E2 boxes in which the Leak-Master Inline specialized, the MapMax can also test individual packaging – such as an entire batch from a thermoform or tray sealing machine – and test them one by one for leaks. This brings about cost savings since only individual, rejected packs need to be repacked. Behind this advance in productivity is the new in-feed, consisting of two synchronized conveyor belts. The measurement chamber has also been re-designed. This and other modifications has made the unit more compact: the length is only approximately 1,800 mm, so that retrofitting is no longer a problem with the majority of production lines. The works manager does not need to worry about bottlenecks: with up to 15 cycles per minute, the new Leak-Master is currently the fastest system of its type. CO2 is used to detect even the smallest of leaks. If the packaging is not airtight, the sensor in the vacuum chamber will detect any leak. The test result is shown in the display and if there is a leak, an alarm is triggered. The system can be set to shut down the packaging machine or use an optional reject arm.
