February 9, 2016, Edmonton, Alta – The Alberta Farm Fresh School 2016 is being held Feb. 25-26 and Rob Spencer, commercial horticulture specialist, says the school is the perfect place to learn more about direct market production and marketing of fruit, vegetables and livestock, as well as connect with producer peers and experts.

“This year’s event is being offered jointly by Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association and Organic Alberta,” he says. “As a result, there will be sessions for organic grain producers and all sessions will be appropriate for both conventional and organic producers.”

The school features a range of streams for different audiences over its two days including horticulture, marketing/transition, livestock and grains. Additionally, there will be a trade show, as well as a business/conversation room for specific businesses and topics.


“New Venture Coaches will be on hand to have one-on-one discussions about business plans and business expansion ideas,” Spencer says. “There are lots of opportunities to take home information, share ideas, and get insightful tips and advice.”

There is a full social evening, including a dinner and awards presentation (with cash bar available), followed by a separate mixer on Thursday evening. The AGMs of the Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association (AFFPA) and Organic Alberta (OA) will be held at noon on Day 1.

The Alberta Farm Fresh School 2016 takes place February 25-26 at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites in Olds, Alta (on Olds College campus).
