June 25, 2013  By Marg Land

June 24, 2013 – The itinerary for the Saskatchewan Vegetable Growers’ Association (SVGA) annual field day has been finalized and, according to group officials, it’s one of the best tours yet.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. June 25 at Craven Riverside Gardens, located near Lumsden, Sask. A tour of the operation will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and will include Craven’s packing facility with a discussion of food safety protocols plus the farm’s commercial dill cucumber and cauliflower fields.

The tour will also stop at Heliotrope Organic Farm, located near Craven, Sask. The fruit and vegetable farm also sells at the Regina Farmers’ Market.

Lunch will be held in Lumsden, Sask.

Then it’s off to Over the Hill Orchards, located near Lumsden. Dean and Sylvia Kreutzer produce cherry jams, juice and syrups plus much more. They also breed hardy fruit varieties for Saskatchewan growers.

The final stop will be Lincoln Gardens, also located near Lumsden. Wayne Gienow and Kim Sakundiak operate Saskatchewan’s largest market garden and retail outlet.

Cost of the tour is $35 for members, $50 for nonmembers. Lunch is included in the price.
