Subway restaurant officials are considering offering an apple slice menu item across the U.S., according to a recent report in The Packer. The fast food chain originally started selling apple slices in its approximately 1,700 California outlets during the spring of 2006. The 2.4-ounce packets of sliced red and green apples are currently supplied by Chiquita Brand International Inc. Expansion of the program could mean added demand for apples in North America. Subway has 27,115 outlets in 86 countries.
