gs_logoStokes Seeds introduced the exclusive Gourmet Sweet™ Brand in the year 2000 with a limited supply of three varieties. For 2005, there are seven outstanding additions, bringing the total line-up to 21.

Gourmet Sweet Brands are augmented sh2 hybrids with 100 per cent sh2 kernels on every ear. Conventional breeding techniques have provided true corn flavour and tenderness with unbelievable sweetness and fantastic holding qualities, both on and off the stalk. Each of the 21 varieties have all the high standards growers expect in a sh2 sweet corn hybrid plant package – husk colour, flags, tip fill, ear height and refined kernel rowing.

The seven new 2005 additions are:

173A:
73 day yellow. A very attractive, early yellow. High quality, with good cold soil emergence and seed vigour. A very uniform, large ear with very high yield potential in the early sh2 class. Machine harvestable.

180A: 80 day yellow. Full-season, high-quality sh2 for the shipping market with rust tolerance. Very uniform ears with a great-looking ear package. Machine harvestable.

Vision:
75 day yellow. Our best overall, high-eating-quality hybrid with good holding ability on and off the stalk. Good cold soil vigour with a very uniform plant and ear package. High yield potential that can be harvested with a Pixall puller (no experience with cutter yet).

274A:
74 day bicolour. An early version of Fantastic with great plant eating quality. Good husk protection when planted in the early and mid slots. Later plantings to be monitored in the future to see if tip cover holds up. No rust tolerances claimed.
