Grant Rigby has just introduced a second wine to go with his award-winning raspberry and is hopeful that his new black currant wine (in aperitif, dinner and dessert varieties) will be as well received. Rigby introduced his Rigby Orchards raspberry wine five years ago. The product won a Genesis Award for Best New Prairie Grown Food and was served for Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee dinner in Winnipeg in 1999. While the raspberry wine is made from Rigby Orchards’ ten-acre organic crop in southwestern Manitoba, he is importing the black currants from Alberta growers. The wines are available in stores throughout the Prairie provinces. The Rigby Family farm has been in operation for 122 years. Rigby also grows organic grain, lentils, flax and green peas.
