Azinphos-methyl is the first product to have undergone and completed the extensive re-evaluation under the Pest Management Regulatory Agency’s ongoing review process. For the 2005 growing season, Bayer CropScience is embarking on an extensive communications program to ensure retailers, growers and processors are aware of the new label restrictions.

Critical changes for Guthion are as follows:

• Guthion Spray Concentrate will no longer be manufactured.

• Guthion (liquid or WP) in retail inventory prior to August 31, 2004 with the old label must be used on-farm no later than December 31, 2005. This existing product has a label that includes use on vegetables.

• Any Guthion Solupak 50% WP shipped after August 31, 2004 has a new restricted label, and will not be registered on vegetable crops. See the registered crops listed below.

• The new Guthion product with the restricted label must be used on-farm no later than December 31, 2006.

Guthion Solupak 50% WP label will not include any vegetable crops. It is only labelled for use on the following crops: apples, crab apples, apricots, blackberries, cherries, cranberries, grapes, pears, peaches, plums, prunes and raspberries.

Bayer CropScience generated and submitted new data to the PMRA last fall and continues to stand behind the safety of the product when used according to the product label. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the phase out of Guthion products, please call 1-888-283-6847 or visit the company web site at www.bayercropscience.ca.
