Pest control company Orkin Canada launches sanitization service amid COVID-19

May 19, 2020  By Fruit and Vegetable

Orkin Canada, a producer of common pest control products, announced a cleaning service for businesses to disinfect workplaces during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Orkin Vital Clean service uses a Health Canada-registered disinfectant labeled for use against a wide variety of pathogens and is included on Health Canada’s list of products that meet their criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. When applied at full strength in accordance with the product label, it will kill 100 per cent of bacteria and viruses on hard, non-porous surfaces and will also sanitize soft, porous surfaces.

“This product has been used for years to disinfect commercial facilities after pest cleanouts. We are now pleased that it can serve a broader public health purpose as well,” said Rob Quinn, senior vice president of operations with Orkin Canada.

Orkin explained that trained technicians carefully wipe down all high-touch surfaces with the product in a given location, apply a misting application using specialized equipment, and let it dry undisturbed for 10 to 15 minutes. Once the product application has dried, the label assures 100 per cent disinfection of all bacteria and viruses on hard, non-porous surfaces.

Orkin Canada joins Clean Works as another business providing its services outside of the produce sector to help with health and safety measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Clean Works, a produce sanitization firm, started manufacturing mobile units that can sanitize N95 masks.
