P.E.I. potato harvest just about complete

October 30, 2012, Alberton, PEI – There’s suddenly a scarcity of harvesters in Prince Edward Island’s potato fields. Last week’s fine weather did wonders for that.
Brian Beaton, potato specialist for the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture, estimates that at least 95 per cent of the Island’s potato crop is now out of the ground and those still in the ground are in wet spots that growers will probably leave behind rather than harvest and risk breakdown in the piles.
