Past president of BCFGA dies

September 6, 2013, Kelowna, BC – Joe Sardinha, past president of the B.C. Fruit Growers’ Association, passed away Aug. 31.

Universally known as “Joe” to all he met, Sardinha was a popular president of the BCFGA from 2005 to 2011.

“Joe’s death was totally unexpected,” said Jeet Dukhia, president of the BCFGA. “Everywhere I went, people asked how Joe was keeping – out of admiration and respect for Joe. He loved his family, farming and the farm community. I speak for all tree fruit growers in saying we are deeply saddened by this news.”

Sardinha’s untimely death comes at age 52. He leaves his wife Julie and two grown children. The family has asked for privacy as they recover from this unexpected death.

Sardinha’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14 at Holy Child Catholic Church, 14010 Rosedale Ave, Summerland, B.C.

A reception will be held immediately after the funeral and burial. Details on the reception are yet to be finalized.
