B.C. farms receive funding from the Agricultural Enhancement Grants

July 16, 2019  By Abbotsford Community Foundation

The Agricultural Enhancement Grants project focus for 2019 was the revitalization of unused or underutilized land in the Agriculture Land Reserve (ALR) located within the Abbotsford area with an environmental and sustainability objective to create more usable and productive farmland. Specifically, innovative practices to increase both the capacity and productivity in the use of the ALR land for food production.

The three successful projects that were approved for funding fit this criteria:

FarmFolk CityFolk – Organic Seed Production Project
The objective and outcome of this project is to transform 3.5 acres of currently fallow farmland into organic seed production. The seed farm will bring research and educational goals together with an economically viable farm that will generate revenue through the sale of high-quality seeds. Land productivity will be increased over a ten-year plan by developing skills in seed production and establishing higher-value seed crops.
