Ontario’s Local Food Act is no more

October 23, 2012 – With the recent proroguing of the Ontario Legislature many bills, including the Local Food Act, have been killed.

This comes 11 days after the introduction of the new legislation, which was aimed at putting more local food on the plates of Ontario residents.

On October 15, Premier McGuinty announced his resignation and that he had prorogued the Legislature. On prorogation, all current bills die unless the government introduces a motion to carry over specific bills to the next session, which did not occur in this case.
