Ontario producers granted more time to pay production insurance premiums for forage and fruit
May 5, 2020 By Fruit and Vegetable
The Ontario government announced that farmers who normally need to pay their Agricorp production insurance premiums in May will have until June 30, 2020. The extension gives farmers the flexibility to pay later if they need to.
Agricorp is the crop insurance provider of Ontario. This extension supports the agricultural industry as it deals with the challenges and uncertainties brought on by the COVID‑19 outbreak.
This premium extension is for the following plans: asparagus, forage rainfall, fruit and strawberries.
According to Agricorp’s update, other production insurance premium deadlines are staying the same at this time. Plus, other production insurance program plan deadlines, such as enrolment and renewal, will also remain unchanged.
Coverage options for 2020 will not be affected, and Agricorp reassured that program extensions will not cause gaps in coverage, ensuring farmers continue to have coverage in place.
