OMAFRA: Three new pesticide minor use label expansions

Josh Mosiondz, minor use co-ordinator with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), has shared three minor use label expansions recently approved by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). These minor use proposals were submitted by OMAFRA as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.

  • SuffOil-X spray oil emulsion for management of aphids, spider mites, and powdery mildew on various vegetable crops and crop groups in Canada. SuffOil-X was already labeled for management of insects and diseases on a wide range of crops in Canada. Please note that it is toxic to aquatic organisms. Observe buffer zones specified under Directions for Use.
    • Approved for use on crop groups 1 (root and tuber vegetables), 4-13 (leafy vegetables), 22 (stem, stalk and petiole vegetables), Asian water spinach (field and greenhouse) and globe artichokes.
  • Serene herbicide for control or suppression of labelled weeds in various vegetable crop groups in Canada. Serene was already labeled for management of weeds crops in Canada. Please note that it is toxic to aquatic organisms and non-target terrestrial plants. Observe buffer zones specified under Directions for Use.
    • Approved for use on crop groups 1 (root and tuber vegetables), 3-07 (bulb vegetables), 4-13 (leafy vegetables, field and greenhouse), 5-13 (Brassica head and stem vegetables), 8-09 (fruiting vegetables, field and greenhouse), 9 (cucurbit vegetables, field and greenhouse), and 22 (stem, stalk and petiole vegetables).
  • Purespray Green spray oil for management of aphids on crop group 4-13 (leafy vegetables) and wasabi in Canada. Purespray Green was already labeled for management of insects and powdery mildew on a wide range of crops in Canada. The minor use proposal for wasabi was submitted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Pest Management Centre (AAFC-PMC), while the proposal for leafy vegetables was submitted by OMAFRA. Please note that it is toxic to aquatic organisms. Observe buffer zones specified under Directions for Use.
