OMAFRA offers spotted lanternfly workshop

Spotted lanternfly (SLF), an invasive pest that can ruin an orchard or vineyard crop, has been confirmed in Buffalo, NY. This region is just across the border from Ontario’s Niagara region, a key area for tender fruit and grape production. Although not currently established in Canada, if SLF were to establish, it could cause immense damage to these crops, as well as hops, Ontario parks and forests.

Wendy McFadden-Smith, horticulture IPM specialist for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), will be hosting a workshop to discuss OMAFRA’s spotted lanternfly traps and monitoring efforts. Presented by the Invasive Species Centre, this free, in-person workshop will provide training on key information and tools to identify and report SLF.

While offered on two different dates, the same content will be covered in both, so it is not necessary to attend both workshops. Advance registration is required.
