OMAFRA: Frost events challenge strawberry crop

According to the May 29 Berry Bulletin, posted to ONFruit by Erica Pate, berry specialist for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the spate of frost events that have occurred throughout May have put pressure on this year’s strawberry crop. Some early varieties are showing damage where there was no frost protection, but it remains to be seen how the plants will respond – there is the possibility some will compensate for the damage, and it will depend on what stage the plants were at when the frost events took place. |READ MORE
