OMAFRA: Fire blight prediction maps now available
May 10, 2022 By Fruit & Vegetable
Kristy Grigg-McGuffin, integrated pest management (IPM) specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), has announced that fire blight prediction maps for apple and pear for the 2022 growing season in Ontario are now available. The level of risk indicated by the maps assumes the presence of open blossoms and dew or rain to wet the blossoms – both of which are necessary for fire blight infection to occur. However, Grigg-McGuffin notes that only a little bit of moisture is needed to wash the fire blight bacteria into a blossom.
The maps and forecast predictions are intended to be used to prepare for potential infection periods in your area. |READ MORE
