OFVGA re-elect board chair

January 13, 2014, Niagara Falls Ont – Ray Duc will serve a second one-year term as chair of the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association (OFVGA).

The grape and tender fruit grower from the Niagara Region was re-elected at the organization’s 155th annual general meeting currently underway in Niagara Falls.

“I appreciate the support and trust that fruit and vegetable growers have placed in me to lead this organization for another year,” says Duc. “I look forward to continuing the work we are doing on significant issues facing our sector, such as minimum wage and dealing with increasing regulatory requirements that affect our growers.”

 

Duc farms with his son and brother-in-law on a third generation family farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He is currently in his 11th year as an OFVGA director and had previously served a four-year term on the organization’s board. Duc is also a former chair of the Grape Growers of Ontario and has been involved with other agricultural organizations, including Farm & Food Care Ontario, Foreign Agricultural Resource Management Service and CANAG.

 

The 2014 OFVGA board also includes directors Charles Stevens (apples), Norm Charbonneau (small fruit/berries), Jason Verkaik (fresh vegetables – muck), Mac James (potatoes), Jason Ryder (asparagus), John Thwaites (tender fruit), Jan VanderHout (greenhouse vegetables), Don Taylor (greenhouse vegetables), Ken VanTorre (ginseng) and Mary Shabatura (fresh vegetables).
