Officials looking into St. Jacobs fire
September 4, 2013 By The Canadian Press
September 4, 2013, St. Jacobs, Ont – Fire officials say they are looking at several possible sources of a fire that levelled part of a renowned farmers market near Waterloo.
Lonnie Schubert of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office says the fire started in the southeast corner of the main building at the St. Jacobs Market.
He says investigators have yet to identify what caused the fire but are looking at several “potential ignition sources.”
Schubert says there’s no suggestion of foul play so far.
The blaze has left the community mourning a beloved attraction.
The 22-hundred-square-metre building housed some 60 vendors, with several hundred more setting up shop in other buildings or outside.
Organizers say the outdoor portion of the year-round market will re-open this week
