Land rule change will not raise prices in P.E.I.

Charlottetown, PEI – P.E.I.’s agriculture minister is trying to sooth the fears
of the National Farmers Union, saying a recent change in land ownership rules
will not increase farmland prices.

Charlottetown, PEI – P.E.I.’s agriculture minister is trying to sooth the fears
of the National Farmers Union, saying a recent change in land ownership rules
will not increase farmland prices.

The change allows
exemptions for environmentally-sensitive land, so that it is not included in
ownership limits. That means individuals could own more than 405 hectares, and
corporations could own more than 1215 hectares.
