Kings County Agricultural Fair may shut down after 117 years

August 21, 2012  By David Manly

Aug. 21, 2012 – Due to dwindling interest and lack of funding, the oldest agricultuiral event may be shutting down after 117 years in operation.

According to CBC News, the fair has been operating on a restricting budget as well as declining interest and the latest cut of $1,000 from the government may be the proverbial nail in the coffin.

“Without funding, it’s really hard to make this a go,” said the fair’s vice-president, Jenna Munro. “We have a great facility here, but we have to pay for it, obviously. But with the grant being cut again — $1,000 this year — it’s really making it hard for us to proceed for the next and following years.”
