IVIF as a global innovation forum

November 23, 2009 – Stuttgart is expecting around 600 exhibitors and 40,000 trade visitors from all over the world between March 24 and 28, 2010.

November 23, 2009 – The two leading international trade fairs ProWein in Düsseldorf and Intervitis Interfructa in Stuttgart are further extending their marketing co-operation under the motto "The selection for trade and technology" and will also be scheduled together for the first time in spring 2010. These two events will be back to back from March 21 to 28, 2010. International wine producers will be able to market their wines at ProWein, international trade fair wines and spirits (March 21-23, 2010), and then go directly to Intervitis Interfructa.

Dr. Rudolf Nickenig, Secretary General of the German Winegrowers’ Association (DWV), and Ulrich Kromer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Messe Stuttgart, presented the contents and key topics of Intervitis Interfructa 2010 during an international press conference at the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre, Europe’s most modern trade fair centre. As a global innovation forum, IVIF 2010 (March 24-28, 2010) is expected to attract around 600 exhibitors and approximately 40,000 trade visitors from all over the world. This is expected due to the internationalization of the trade fair over many years. The proportion of foreign exhibitors and visitors at Intervitis Interfructa 2007 was 35 per cent and 25 per cent respectively, thus making it by far the most international event of this kind in the world.

The first-class international congress program of IVIF will also form the backbone of the trade fair in 2010. Under the motto "Quality – sustainability – market: driving forces for innovations" the German Winegrowers’ Association and its partner organizations from the wine, fruit, fruit juice and spirits industries expect that 1,500 experts from every continent will attend the IVIF Congress to exchange information and know-how. The Congress topics will cover cultivation and harvesting technology for grapes and fruit; Processing and process control for wine, fruit juice and spirits; Filling and packaging technology; Marketing and organization.

DWV General Secretary Dr. Nickenig is expecting plenty of innovation at IVIF 2010 – from laser-controlled grape sorting systems and new special tractors to advances in membrane processes in cellar technology to alternative bottle seals. Both the IVIF 2010 exhibition and congress program will also include the theme of fruit juice and fruit growing. Almost 100 presentations from international experts, half of whom are coming from outside Germany, have been divided into different modules which can be individually booked either in the morning or afternoon, leaving participants with enough time to visit the trade fair. During the fruit cultivation conference taking place at IVIF 2010, the fruit industry will be answering questions on the cultivation of soft fruits and storage technology. Flüssiges Obst GmbH will be organizing a fruit juice workshop under the patronage of the European Fruit Juice Association (AIJN) and management figures from the Association of the German Fruit Juice Industry (VdF) will also be present at the Stuttgart event.

All events targeted at the wine industry will be held within the scope of the 60th German Viticulture Congress. The major topics of this event will include cultivation methods during climate change, sustainable production and quality assurance, ecological cultivation, wine analysis, storage technology for fruit, grape production, wine and tourism, and wine and architecture. The Congress will open on 24 March 2010 with a discussion about global challenges for the wine and fruit industries. Professor Klaus Töpfer, Chairman of the UNO Commission for Sustainable Development, and Yves Bénard, President of the International Office for Vines and Wine (OIV), will talk about current topics such as climate change and sustainability. The speaker on the topics of production and marketing will be Miguel Torres, President and Director of the Torres wine estates in Spain and Chile. Dr. Nickenig: "It is already clear that the IVIF Congress in 2010 will again be the world’s most important platform for the exchange of information and know-how between scientists, producers and consultants."

The Intervitis Interfructa Innovation Award, which is presented every three years for outstanding innovations in the four exhibition areas, also contributes to the international reputation of the trade fair. Technical products and services that play an important role in advances in the wine, fruit, fruit juice and spirits industries will be selected by an international jury and presented in a special show in Hall 7 during IVIF 2010.

In order to make it easier for all exhibitors and visitors to attend IVIF 2010, Messe Stuttgart and its authorized partner Travel point have put together some attractive packages in relation to travel, accommodation and the accompanying program. These packages can be adapted very individually to the starting point/destination, the required hotel category and the length of stay in Stuttgart. The special offers as part of the cooperation between ProWein and Intervitis Interfructa are also very interesting. The complete packages include travel from the foreign country to Düsseldorf, hotels in Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, the flight between the two cities and the return flight home from Stuttgart. However, a single flight or rail transfer from Düsseldorf to Stuttgart can also be booked.
