July 16, 2010 – With an abundance of potatoes from last fall's crop, farmers have cut back the amount they planted this spring.
United Potato Growers of Idaho say this is the lowest number of acres planted in several decades.

But the farmers are confident that fewer acres will relieve the industry of the over supply and still harvest enough to take care of customers.
Idaho potato farmers have planted only 295,000 acres this year, an 8-percent decrease from 2009, and actually the fewest acres planted since 1980.
