Farm leaders to announce AgriFlex proposal

Canadian farmers have been working together on recommendations to
address potential shortfalls in the federal government’s proposed new
agricultural policy framework – Growing Forward.

June 17, 2008, Regina, Sask. – Canadian farmers have been working together through their national farm organization and provincial counterparts on recommendations to address potential shortfalls in the federal government’s proposed new agricultural policy framework, known as Growing Forward.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture is pleased that the government has responded to several of its recommendations thus far; however there are still significant gaps that need attention.
 
CFA has facilitated extensive discussion among farmers to develop solutions to fill these gaps. The result is AgriFlex – a joint federal-provincial-territorial government funding envelope that would complement Growing Forward’s business risk management components by enabling regional or commodity-specific programming that is not addressed by the current national umbrella program.
 
On June 20th, CFA will unveil its AgriFlex proposal alongside leaders from several western farm organizations, including the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS), Wild Rose Agricultural Producers (WRAP) of Alberta, and Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) of Manitoba.

The event is taking place in Conference Room 5 at the Queensbury Convention Centre during the Western Canada Farm Progress Show in Regina, Sask., starting at 10 a.m.
