Farm labour shortage still an issue despite Canada-Mexico deal

The continued flow of Mexican workers to Ontario farms may have averted another pandemic-related crisis for the province’s food supply, but labour shortages still plague the industry and crops will still go to waste, says the head of Ontario Federation of Agriculture.

On Sunday the Mexican government said it struck a deal with Canada’s Liberal government that will lead to improvements in the temporary foreign worker program. In a press release, Mexico said Canada has committed to increased inspections, as well as more support for Mexican officials and workers to identify and report unsafe working conditions. | READ MORE
