Farm & Food Care to conduct water study

August 2, 2013  By Farm & Food Care

Aug. 2, 2013 – Farm & Food Care is conducting a survey of farmers this fall in hopes of determining how water is stored, used and managed on the farm.

Farmers rely on water each day for the optimal growth of crops and providing livestock with water, but when do farmers really think about water use? The last two years were dry in Ontario, and though precipitation levels are near normal already this year, it is an opportunity to discuss water management further. How does your farm deal with excess water or a drought? Where do you normally source your water? These are important questions that farmers must consider for their operation.

Farm & Food Care, as part of the Water Resource Adaptation and Management Initiative (WRAMI), will partner with Strategic Research Associates (Guelph) to conduct the survey of farmers this fall to ask some of these questions about water usage, storage and management on the farm.

The study will seek to find out how farmers are managing their water use decisions and what information or tools they might need to make the best decisions possible for their operation.
