Guelph, Ont – Ag Energy Co-operative has announced that its membership
requirements have been changed, effectively extending membership candidacy to
all those in the agricultural community.

“As the energy
marketplace shifts and evolves, our co-op must follow suit,” says Rose Gage,
chief executive officer of Ag Energy Co-operative. “We welcome every farmer,
food processor and agriculturally focused stakeholder to the value chain to
utilize our expert energy team.”

From its inception in
1988 to present day, the co-op has moved from its greenhouse roots to further
reaches in Ontario agriculture as a whole. Members benefit from preferred
natural gas and electricity pricing and turnkey solar PV systems. The co-op
offers members trusted energy market information, education and advice along
with transparent pricing, voting rights, and the potential for patronage.

“It is a logical
progression to change the requirements. In recent years the co-op has
increasingly developed its program and service offerings to benefit all of
Ontario agriculture, not just its current membership,” said Ag Energy’s
retired, former chief executive officer, Mike Bouk.

“Agriculture can play a
critical role in the emerging alternative energy market,” added Gage. “Ag
Energy Co-operative
looks to begin collaborating with all possible participants
now to ensure that together, we are able to realize all the possible
opportunities.”

Previously, membership
was limited to agricultural producers and processors with a minimum annual
consumption of 50,000 m3 of natural gas. The decision to remove the
energy consumption requirement was ratified by the members at the November 2009
Annual General Meeting.
