July 7, 2008, Ridgetown, Ont. – Downy mildew has been confirmed in Kent County, Ontario.

cucumbersThe infection was found at a very early stage and is likely only a few days old. Approximately 10 per cent of the plants are showing one young lesion on one leaf.

Cucumbers in all areas of Ontario remain at a very high risk of infection. Growers are urged to rotate sprays between Tattoo C and Ranman 400SC at intervals no longer than every seven days. They should use the highest rate specified on the label for both of these products.

Broadspectrum fungicides will not provide adequate protection from downy mildew under these conditions. If downy mildew is identified in a field, shorter spray intervals may be required to effectively prevent secondary infections.
