“I appreciate the
support and trust that Ontario’s fruit and vegetable growers have placed in me
to serve another term as the chair of our organization,” says Gilroy. “I look
forward to being able to continue our work on key issues facing growers, such
as the implementation of a sustainable risk management program for the
horticulture sector.”

Gilroy is an apple
grower from the Meaford, Ont, area, where he has farmed since 1987. He has been
involved with the OFVGA since 1990, serving as chair of the Property Section
and a one-year term as vice chair of the organization before becoming chair in
2010. He is also chair of the Ontario Apple Growers.

New directors joining
the OFVGA board for 2011 include Jan Vanderhout (greenhouse), Fred Meyers
(tender fruit) and Mary Shabatura (fresh vegetable-other). Jason Ryder, who
previously represented fresh vegetable (other) on the board, has assumed the
director seat for asparagus for the upcoming year.

Ontario’s 7,500 fruit, vegetable, and greenhouse producers on issues affecting
