Alberta researchers unveil new potato varieties

February 24, 2014, Lethbridge, Alta – Potatoes are big business in southern Alberta.
With a host of potato-processing plants in the area, a number of agricultural producers have contracts to grow the cash crop, one of the most important commodities produced in this region.
Recently at the Lethbridge Research Centre, growers and industry officials were able to see first hand the latest advances in the industry, as researchers unveiled 15 new potato varieties. Of the 15 for release, three were of particular interest to local producers – two chipping varieties and one ideal for french-fry production. READ MORE
