agdia_immunostripThere’s a new way to test for potato viruses in the field with the recent release of the PVY ImmunoStrip®, a test strip that allows for rapid and universal detection of all strains of potato virus Y, including yet unclassified isolates of the virus such as the NTN isolates. The PVY ImmunoStrip allows producers to test leaf tissue for the presence of PVY in potato. Company test data from Europe, South America, and North America shows the PVY ImmunoStrip has 98 to 100 per cent agreement with ELISA results for detection of all naturally infected leaf samples. The strips offer the laboratory technology of ELISA, but in an easy-to-use format that works in the field. The testing process involves simply grinding the suspect plant sample in the special bag that contains the extraction buffer (included with the kit) and inserting the ImmunoStrip into the bag. Results can be seen in 10 to 15 minutes. PVY ImmunoStrip can provide diagnosis when time is a limiting factor in decision-making. It is also a valuable teaching and research tool.
