He replaces outgoing chair, Terry Murray, member of the Wild Rose Agricultural Producers in Alberta.

“I wish to thank Terry for his passion and dedication to CAHRC,” said Wiseman. “His leadership over the past three years has helped the council to begin delivering on its mission to research, develop and communicate solutions to HR issues identified by Canadian primary agriculture. I look forward to building upon those efforts and raising the bar on employment and skills development.”

The owner of the largest silver fox farm in North America, located in North Harbour, Placentia Bay, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Wiseman served five years as president of the NLFA. He is past president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Livestock Council as well as past president of the NL Fur Breeders Association.

A number of officers were also appointed at the meeting in Calgary: Mark Wales, vice president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, moved to the position of vice chair; Harold Deenen, CEO of the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, returns as treasurer; and Ron Bonnett, president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, as well as Doug Chorney, vice president of the Keystone Agricultural Producers (Manitoba), were both elected as members on the executive committee.

Led by industry and funded by the federal government’s Sector Council Program, the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council was created in 2006 to address primary agriculture’s most pressing challenges related to the recruitment and retention of farm labour and skills training for employers and employees. The council is guided by a board of directors comprised of representatives from national commodity organizations or provincial/federal general farm organizations.
