August 11, 2009 – The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently approved the User Requested Minor Use Label Expansion (URMULE) for Switch 62.5 WG Fungicide (Cyprodinil and Fludioxonil) for the suppression of Entomosporium leaf spot on saskatoon berries in Canada.
Switch 62.5WG is a broad spectrum fungicide registered for management of several diseases some of which include control of Botrytis cinerea on strawberry (Gray mold), blueberries (Botrytis Fruit Rot), caneberries (Botrytis Fruit Rot) and leaf blight Alternaria dauci in carrots. It is also registered for the control of anthracnose and powdery mildew on several other crops.
This registration will provide saskatoon berry growers with a much needed disease management tool for this challenging disease problem. Entomosporium leaf and berry spot (ELBS) caused by Entomosporium mespilii is a serious and significant disease of Saskatoon berries and have been a minor use priority for Saskatoon berry producers for many years in Canada.
In 2006 this minor use project was initiated by the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Pest Management Centre (AAFC-PMC) Minor Use Pesticide Program.
This label expansion, achieved through the PMRA URMULE Program, was sponsored by AAFC-PMC in response to minor use priorities established by berry producers, processors, extension personnel and researchers in Canada.
